Curated by Jade Foster, At Peace is a brand new exhibition showcasing works from five artists whose works subvert and rethink how Black women and figures have been portrayed, depicted and regarded by Western naturalistic classical and modernist traditions.
On display until 30th January, the exhibition will be exploring work by Alanis Forde, whose work documents the Black female identity within an idealised Caribbean space; Miranda Forrester and her work that addresses the invisibility of of women of colour throughout history; Sahara Longe’s reworking of history as she swaps in Black bodies in place of models who dominated the period of Old Masters; Cece Philips’s large scale oil paintings that touch on the relationship between women, power and cultural signifiers; and Emma Prempeh’s works that draw on memories and family heritage, while looking at the future.
