Food and art are colliding at Sotheby’s this month as Stevie Parle and Tom Dixon bring JOY to the auction house in celebration of Modern British Art Week.
The five-day pop-up will see a JOY restaurant space featuring lots of rare plants and furniture from Tom Dixon, including his HYDRO chairs, TUBE tables and CODE lighting sculptures, surrounded by art from the likes of Henry Moore, Howard Hodgkin and Bridget Riley. During the day, the JOY pop-up will serve breakfast and a lunch menu with dishes like finely chopped belted Galloway beef with pickled elderberries, cured egg yolk & crisp bread; smoked eel with beetroot & horseradish; ribollita; and Wild Margate seabass with cep, thyme & Nyetimber. In the evenings, Stevie will be cooking for intimate supper clubs with a menu including Scottish langoustine roasted with butter & seaweed; risotto bianco with white truffles; venison roasted with bacon, chestnuts, sage & barbera; and nutmeg custard tart with cider brandy-soaked prunes. And if you like the furniture as much as you like the food, the pieces will be available for sale via Sotheby’s during the pop-up.
