Following similar events at Covent Garden with the LEGO Santa Express in 2015, Santa’s Workshop in 2016 and the most recent exhibition based on Rebuild the World in 2020, the LEGO Group is planning to bring another festive display to the location this year.
Titled the Carousel of Creativity, the installation is a joint digital and physical venture that will feature five sections with a character in each – a few of which can be seen in the provided concept art. However, the last area will consist of a screen that displays creations that can be sent in by fans using a free LEGO app. Anyone can submit a model for the Carousel of Creativity via the LEGO Life app, with a selection of chosen builds being displayed on the dedicated screen on the installation, in LEGO stores across the UK, as well as on the official online store. For those who are unable to make their way to Covent Garden in London this December, LEGO.com will also feature a virtual version of the Carousel of Creativity to tour with a 3D model and weekly building challenges. You can start to visit the LEGO Carousel of Creativity at Covent Garden until January 2, 2022. A pop-up shop will also be available at the location, which is also just five minutes from the flagship Leicester Square store. At Kensington Palace in the newly-conserved historic Orangery, this new temporary exhibition explores the intimate relationship between fashion designer and royal client, revealing the process behind the creation of a number of the most important couture commissions in royal history.
On display will be the wedding dress of Diana, Princess of Wales, on show for the first time at Kensington Palace in 25 years, in addition to a rare, surviving toile for the 1937 coronation gown of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother; consort of King George VI. The display also features never-before-seen items from the archives of some of the most celebrated royal couturiers of the 20th century, set alongside examples of the glittering gowns and stylish tailoring created for three generations of royal women. There will be some surprises for fashion fans. If you're interested in this exhibition then it is available until the 2nd of January 2022 and tickets can be obtained by requesting them from the concierge. NOW Gallery is delighted to announce that multidisciplinary artist Lydia Chan has been selected for the 2021 Design Commission. The aim of this Commission is to create a space for visitors to come and perform in, interacting with a narrative that explores the bubbly fantastical qualities of science fiction in a time where science is so filled with doom and gloom. Lydia has collaborated with digital artists Songyee Kim and Thibault Evrard to create an AR experience, a portal between digital and physical.
A self-defined maximalist, Lydia is a set designer and multidisciplinary artist who loves monsters, designer toys and cartoons. The artist’s bold and narrative building aesthetic has established her as one of the most exciting young set designers working in the industry today, with clients including Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, Vogue China, Gucci and Converse. Lydia is interested in nature through the goggles of the artificial, exploring the idea that through isolation in our homes, the natural world becomes more foreign to us. Lockdown may be over but isolation remains in our subconsciousness. Like space explorers treading on a foreign planet, we are still acclimating to the attributes of our new environment. Through an alternative lens she has reinterpreted nature as an alien world. Tickets for this event are complimentary for all members and can be obtained by requesting them from The Lexo Club Concierge at any time. Katsushika Hokusai is one of Japan's most celebrated artists, best known for his iconic print Under the Wave off Kanagawa (or The Great Wave).
This new exhibition at the British Museum will feature 103 of his later drawings that were created during the 1820s and 1840s for an illustrated encyclopaedia called The Great Picture Book of Everything. The pictures showcase his inimitable style and masterful brushwork, covering everything from scenes in Buddhist India, ancient China to the natural world, but also reveal that 19th-century Japan was much more intrigued by the wider world than previously thought. For reasons unknown the book was never published, giving us the opportunity to see these exceptional works which would otherwise have been destroyed during the woodblock printing process. Alongside the original brush drawings will be Hokusai's masterpiece The Great Wave, plus objects that give insight into his working practices and the intricate process by which his woodblock prints were created. Tickets are available from £9 per person and can be purchased directly from The British Museums website or by requesting them from The Lexo Club Concierge. The British artist expands his conceptual practice with a new body of work comprising an interactive installation, large-scale neon and clock. A selection of works on paper will also be released online during the show. Characteristically deadpan in their humour, these quick-witted drawings satirise everyday occurrences and conversations.
The evolving installation ‘Mayfair Tennis Ball Exchange’ transforms the two spaces of Gallery 1. Visitors are invited to bring an old ball to swap with a new one from the numerous shelves that line the walls. Gradually the rows of yellow spheres are replaced with misshapen and discoloured forms that represent the joy of trade. Discussing the origins of this work, Shrigley explains: “My dog likes tennis balls. I throw them and she chases them. [Her interest is] more about exchange than possession.” If you're interested in visiting then be sure to inform the concierge... Celebrate the New Year like it was in 2019!
